The RODE NTG5 is a short, light supercardioid shotgun for location recording —
indie film, TV, documentary. Circular acoustic ports replace the conventional
slotted interference tube, and combined with a gentle high-frequency lift and
low-bass attenuation the result is a transparent, uncolored capture rather than a
shaped one. Self-noise is just 10 dBA with high sensitivity, so you can reach
useful levels without leaning on the preamp.
Sound and handling
- Shorter and lighter than the NTG3, for mobile and boom work.
- Supercardioid pattern with smooth off-axis response, so movement off the mic axis doesn’t change the tone abruptly.
Weather resistance
RF-bias technology and conformal coating on the circuitry resist moisture, dust
and cold — the NTG5’s main argument over alternatives built for drier
conditions.
In the box
- PG2-R pistol grip shockmount for handheld or boompole use.
- Short XLR cable with Neutrik and Switchcraft connectors and a strain-relief junction box.
- Foam windscreen for interiors and a furry windshield for outdoor wind.
