Critically, results are only visible after you’ve finished the roll and digitally “developed” your shots using the FUJIFILM app or by transferring files to your computer. Once a roll is complete, the camera automatically generates a contact sheet image with film strip borders for a quick overview of your shots.
While in this mode, the rear LCD is stripped down to just a frame counter, AF/MF toggle, and an option to imprint a timestamp. Image previews are disabled, pushing you to rely on the built-in optical window viewfinder and the Frame Advance Lever to move to the next “frame”—just like a traditional film camera.

Central to the X half’s appeal are its Film Simulation modes. A small, secondary sub LCD next to the main screen cleverly mimics a film camera’s rear window, showing your chosen “film type.” This small touchscreen allows intuitive swiping to cycle through 13 distinct Film Simulations, including vibrant Velvia, nostalgic Classic Chrome, and artistic black-and-white Acros. You can even adjust the Grain Effect to fine-tune the texture of each film type. Beyond simulations, there are 26 unique filters, inspired by film traits like Light Leak, Halation, Expired Film, and Double Exposure, to layer on top.
Creative Diptychs and Versatile Video
The 2-in-1 Shooting Mode pays homage to the common half-frame practice of showing two sequential frames together. The X half can automatically create in-camera diptychs from two sequential exposures (photo or video). After shooting the first frame, use the Frame Advance Lever to activate this mode, and the next shot will form the finished diptych as a single file. You can even customize the background color, border width, and style of your diptychs.
