The Nikon Nippon Kogaku 50mm f/1.4 NIKKOR-S Auto is a pre-AI manual focus normal prime lens in Nikon F mount, produced during the early era of Nikon’s F-mount system under the Nippon Kogaku name. The f/1.4 maximum aperture provides strong light-gathering capability and natural background separation suited to portrait, street, and available light photography. As a non-AI lens it lacks the coupling ridge required for full metering compatibility with AI and later Nikon bodies, and its use on modern Nikon DSLRs without AI conversion is limited to stop-down metering or manual exposure on bodies that support non-AI lenses.
