Optically, the lens features a 12-element in 10-group construction that incorporates one Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) element, two High-Refractive (HR) elements, and two aspherical (ASPH) elements to suppress optical aberrations, color fringing, and distortion. Its bright f/1.7 maximum aperture pairs with a 9-blade diaphragm for low-light capability and smooth background bokeh. Autofocus is driven by a fast, near-silent leadscrew-type STM stepping motor with support for camera Eye/Face Detection AF and suppressed focus breathing for video recording.
