Ricoh GR III Street Edition Digital Camera

The Ricoh GR III Street Edition Digital Camera is a pocket-sized, fixed-lens compact camera capable of SLR-quality images, distinguished from the standard Ricoh GR III by its distinctive metallic gray finish, an orange-yellow accent ring around the lens, and a reconfigured rear control layout. It’s aimed at street and documentary photographers who want a genuinely pocketable camera without compromising on image quality or responsiveness.

At the core of the GR III Street Edition is a 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor paired with Ricoh’s GR Engine 6 image processor, delivering high-resolution 14-bit DNG or JPEG stills with rich tonality and natural color rendering, along with an ISO range of 100 to 102,400. The fixed 18.3mm lens (28mm full-frame equivalent) uses a slim 6-element, 4-group optical design, including two aspherical elements, offering a classic wide-angle perspective favored for street and landscape photography. A bright f/2.8 maximum aperture supports confident low-light shooting and meaningful background separation.

Autofocus uses a hybrid system combining image-plane phase-detection with contrast detection, along with multiple focus modes including Auto-area, Zone, Select, Pinpoint, Tracking, Continuous AF, manual focus, Snap, and infinity. A Full Press Snap feature lets photographers instantly shift focus to a preselected distance by fully pressing the shutter button or tapping the touchscreen, a signature GR-series tool for fast, decisive street shooting. Sensor-shift 3-axis Shake Reduction helps counteract camera shake for sharper handheld results, and an AA filter simulator uses the SR unit to reduce moiré at adjustable strength.

Handling centers on a 3.0-inch, 1.037-million-dot capacitive touchscreen LCD with a wide viewing angle, used for shooting, playback, and menu navigation. Video capability includes Full HD 1080p recording at up to 60fps. Built-in Bluetooth LE and Wi-Fi allow for wireless connectivity with a paired mobile device for image transfer and remote control. The camera does not include a built-in flash or viewfinder, and storage is handled via approximately 2GB of internal memory along with a single SD/SDHC/SDXC (UHS-I) card slot. Build quality includes a compact, lightweight body with a unique textured surface designed for a secure, comfortable grip, weighing approximately 257g with battery and memory card, or about 227g for the body alone.
