The Peak Design Capture Clip (Gen 1) is the original version of Peak Design’s camera-carrying system, produced from 2011 to 2013 as the company’s very first manufactured product. It’s designed to keep a camera rigidly stable and instantly accessible while hiking, biking, or moving around a studio, offering a more secure and convenient alternative to a traditional camera strap or bag.
The system consists of two components: a metal clip that clamps to a backpack strap, belt, or bag, and a tripod-compatible quick-release plate that screws into the bottom of the camera. The camera locks into the clip, where it’s held rigidly and securely in place, and a lockable quick-release button allows it to be removed instantly for shooting, then reattached when not in use. Gen 1 is distinguished from later versions by its 4-pronged clamping bolts, a knurled metal twist lock, a square red quick-release button, and an Arca-type plate fitted with a neoprene pad; the clip and plate themselves are constructed from die-cast material finished in black powdercoat.
The clip is rated to hold well over 200 lbs. (90 kg), making it strong enough for even heavy professional camera and lens combinations, and it attaches to straps, belts, or bags using its twist-lock clamping mechanism. Because the included plate is Arca-type compatible, a camera can be moved directly from the Capture Clip onto most Arca-Swiss tripods without needing to swap plates.
