SmallRig Mini Matte Box Lite

The SmallRig Mini Matte Box Lite is a remarkably lightweight, compact clamp-on matte box designed for small mirrorless and DSLR camera setups, helping block unwanted sunlight, glare, and flare while providing a cleaner view of the image on-screen during shooting. Weighing just 3.8 oz. (108g), it’s a practical, low-bulk addition to a lightweight camera rig.

Constructed from a combination of durable carbon fiber, plastic, and aluminum, the matte box features a 95mm diameter opening, with included 67mm, 72mm, 77mm, and 82mm threaded adapter rings letting it attach to lenses of various diameters, or directly to a 95mm front element. A separately available adapter ring kit (52mm, 55mm, 58mm, 62mm, and 86mm) extends compatibility to additional lens sizes, and the matte box also accepts circular filters up to 92.5mm in diameter.

The matte box includes one fixed filter stage sized for 4 x 5.65-inch (or 4 x 4-inch) plug-in filters measuring up to 4mm thick, with an easy-to-store filter tray that mounts onto the matte box via a NATO clamp, protecting filters from accidental drops, scratches, and fingerprints while swapping between them. A carbon fiber top flag, adjustable both vertically, horizontally, and in tilt, helps block veiling glare and strong overhead light, and can be folded down to help protect the front of the lens when not shooting.

Build quality centers on its lightweight carbon fiber, ABS, and aluminum construction, with the matte box attaching to a lens via a simple clamp connector rather than rails or rods, keeping setup fast and the overall footprint small. It has a maximum load capacity of 2.2 lb. and measures approximately 6.9 x 5.3 x 1.8 in. (176 x 134 x 46.5mm).
