The FUJIFILM GFX 100S packs a 102MP medium format sensor into a body roughly the size of a full-frame DSLR, bringing the resolution and image quality of large-format digital capture to a camera that is practical to carry and shoot handheld. Built-in image stabilization, fast phase-detection autofocus, and capable video features make it a versatile tool for landscape, portrait, commercial, fine art, and documentary photographers who want medium format results without a studio-bound workflow.
At the heart of the camera is a 102MP back-side illuminated CMOS sensor measuring 43.8 x 32.9 mm, about 1.7 times the area of a full-frame sensor. The large sensor supports exceptional detail, wide dynamic range, and smooth tonal transitions, while the BSI design helps maintain image quality as sensitivity rises. Native ISO runs from 100 to 12800, expandable to 50 to 102400. Images are processed by the X-Processor 4, which handles everything from autofocus calculations to color rendering.
Keeping a sensor this detailed sharp handheld is aided by 5-axis in-body image stabilization rated for up to 6 stops of compensation. For subjects that stay still, the Pixel Shift Multi-Shot mode combines a series of sensor-shifted frames into a single 400MP image, capturing extraordinary detail and accurate color for art reproduction, architecture, and product work.
Autofocus uses a hybrid system with phase-detection pixels covering nearly the entire sensor, delivering quick, accurate focus across the frame. Face and eye detection help keep portrait subjects sharp, and the system performs well in low light. Continuous shooting reaches up to 5 fps.
Fujifilm’s color science carries over in the form of 19 Film Simulation modes, including Classic Chrome, ACROS, ETERNA, and Nostalgic Neg., giving photographers a range of looks straight out of camera.
For video, the GFX 100S records 4K at up to 30p with 10-bit 4:2:0 internal recording and F-Log, plus 12-bit ProRes RAW output via HDMI to a compatible external recorder. The large sensor gives footage a distinctive, shallow-depth-of-field look that is difficult to achieve with smaller formats.
Handling is designed for focused, deliberate shooting. A 3.69m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder offers a clear, detailed view, while the 3.2-inch 2.36m-dot touchscreen tilts in three directions for high, low, and vertical compositions. A 1.8-inch top LCD displays key settings at a glance. The weather-resistant body is sealed at numerous points against dust and moisture and is rated to operate down to -10°C (14°F). Dual UHS-II SD card slots, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, USB-C, and microphone and headphone jacks round out the connectivity. The camera uses the NP-W235 battery and weighs approximately 900 g (31.7 oz) with battery and memory card.
