At the core of the ZS99 is a 20.3MP 1/2.3-inch high-sensitivity MOS sensor paired with Panasonic’s Venus Engine processor, offering an ISO range of 80-6400 for solid image quality even in dimmer conditions. The camera’s Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens delivers a powerful 30x optical zoom, covering a 24-720mm 35mm-equivalent focal range at a variable maximum aperture of f/3.3-6.4, extendable to 60x with Panasonic’s iZoom digital zoom technology. The lens construction incorporates five double-sided aspherical elements to minimize spherical aberrations and distortion throughout the zoom range, and 5-axis Hybrid O.I.S.+ image stabilization helps deliver steady, blur-free results even at full telephoto reach (image stabilization is not available during 4K video recording).

Autofocus uses a contrast-detection system with multi-area, center, selective single-point, tracking, touch, and face-detection modes. Continuous shooting reaches up to 10fps (AF-S) or 5fps with continuous autofocus in Live View, and the mechanical shutter ranges from 4 seconds to 1/2000 second, extending to 1/16000 second electronically. Video capability includes UHD 4K recording at 30p (MP4, 100 Mbps), along with Full HD 1080p and HD 720p recording, plus high-speed Full HD capture at 120fps for slow-motion playback. 4K Photo modes also allow extracting 8MP stills from 4K footage at up to 30fps.
