A rounded 9-blade diaphragm delivers gorgeous, soft background blur.
Canon’s 4-stop Optical Image Stabilizer ensures sharp images when shooting handheld, automatically switching between normal shooting and panning-detection modes as needed, a meaningful advantage for a lens of this focal range and the first time Canon brought stabilization to its ultra-wide L-series lineup. Autofocus is handled by a ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM) paired with an internal, four-group zoom system, delivering fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override; nothing moves externally during zooming or focusing, keeping the barrel length and front element position fixed throughout use.
