Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens

The Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens is an ultra-wide-angle zoom lens designed for APS-C-format Canon EF-S mount DSLR cameras, providing a 16-35.2mm 35mm-equivalent field of view that gives digital SLR users back the ability to see more of the world. It’s well suited to landscapes, architecture, interiors, and creative wide-angle perspectives, delivering excellent optical performance and true wide-angle coverage in a relatively compact, lightweight package.

Optically, the lens is built from 13 elements in 10 groups, including three aspherical lens elements and one Super-UD (ultra-low dispersion) element, working together to correct a variety of aberrations for outstanding image quality throughout the zoom range. A 6-blade circular aperture diaphragm produces natural, pleasing highlights even when stopped down two stops, and the lens covers a 10-22mm focal range with a variable maximum aperture that steps from f/3.5 at 10-12mm through f/4.0 at 13-17mm to f/4.5 at 18-22mm.

Autofocus is handled by a ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM), delivering fast and silent focusing performance along with full-time manual focus simply by turning the focus ring at any time. An inner focusing design means the lens’s overall length doesn’t change when focusing or zooming, and the front element does not rotate, which is convenient for using polarizing filters. A standout feature is the lens’s close-focusing capability, with a minimum focusing distance of just 0.24m (9.5 in.) maintained throughout the entire zoom range, yielding a maximum magnification of 0.17x at 22mm, letting photographers fill the frame with relatively small subjects.

Build quality is compact and lightweight for an ultra-wide zoom, measuring approximately 83.5 x 89.8mm and weighing approximately 385g (13.6 oz.). The lens accepts a 77mm filter thread and does not include image stabilization or weather sealing. It’s compatible with Canon’s EF12 II and EF25 II extension tubes for increased magnification, though it is not compatible with Canon’s EF1.4x II or EF2x II extenders.

The lens is compatible exclusively with Canon’s APS-C EF-S mount cameras and cannot be used on full-frame EF-mount bodies.
