The Canon EOS 80D is a versatile DSLR designed to balance strong stills performance with capable video features, supported by a responsive autofocus system and an intuitive, user-friendly design. At its core is a 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor paired with the DIGIC 6 image processor, enabling high-resolution image capture with low noise and an expanded ISO range up to 25600. It also supports continuous shooting at up to 7 fps and Full HD 1080p video recording at up to 60 fps, delivering solid performance for both photography and video work in a wide range of conditions.

For optical viewfinder shooting, the camera features a 45-point all cross-type phase-detection autofocus system that provides fast, accurate focus tracking even in low light, rated down to -3 EV. This system includes flexible AF area modes such as single-point, Zone AF, Large Zone AF, and automatic 45-point selection, allowing users to tailor focus behavior to different subjects and shooting styles. When shooting in live view or recording video, Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF system takes over, offering smooth, accurate, camcorder-like focusing performance across most of the sensor. It supports features like Face Tracking, customizable AF speed and sensitivity, and touch-to-focus operation via the LCD, making it especially effective for video and moving subjects.

Dedicated microphone and headphone ports provide expanded audio control for serious video work.

A 3.0-inch vari-angle touchscreen LCD with 1.04 million dots allows flexible shooting from high and low angles, while also enabling intuitive menu navigation and focus control. The optical pentaprism viewfinder offers approximately 100% frame coverage for precise composition, along with configurable display aids such as AF points, grid lines, and an electronic level.

Built-in Wi-Fi and NFC support wireless image transfer, remote camera control via the Canon Camera Connect app, and direct sharing to mobile devices or compatible Canon systems. Additional features include a 7560-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor for improved exposure accuracy, anti-flicker shooting for consistent results under artificial lighting, and a shutter rated for 100,000 cycles.
