Canon PowerShot SX720 HS Digital Camera

The Canon PowerShot SX720 HS Digital Camera is a sleek, travel-friendly point-and-shoot camera balancing a long-reaching zoom lens with capable imaging performance, well suited to landscapes, wildlife, sports, and general travel photography. Its notable 40x optical zoom lens is impressively housed in a genuinely pocketable body.

At the core of the SX720 HS is a 20.3MP 1/2.3-inch back-illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor paired with Canon’s DIGIC 6 image processor with iSAPS technology, delivering smooth image quality along with enhanced low-light sensitivity and minimal noise at sensitivities up to ISO 3200. The lens covers a focal range of 4.3-172.0mm (24-960mm 35mm-equivalent), offering 40x optical zoom, extendable to 80x with Zoom Plus digital zoom, or a combined 160x zoom with the Digital Tele-Converter engaged. Intelligent IS image stabilization helps minimize the appearance of camera shake across this substantial zoom range.

Autofocus uses a contrast-detection system with multi-area, center, tracking, single, continuous, and face-detection modes, along with full manual focus and MF Peaking assistance. Macro focusing reaches as close as 1cm (wide end) from the front of the lens, and normal focus extends to 5cm. The camera offers full exposure control, including Program, Aperture-Priority, Shutter-Priority, and Manual modes, along with Scene modes, evaluative (linked to Face Detection AF), center-weighted average, and spot metering, and exposure compensation adjustable by ±2 EV. Continuous shooting reaches up to 5.9fps.

Video capability includes Full HD 1080p recording at 60fps, along with 720p and VGA options. Handling centers on a fixed 3.0-inch LCD screen (922,000 dots); the camera has no viewfinder. Built-in Wi-Fi with NFC allows for wireless image transfer and remote camera control via a connected smartphone or tablet. Additional creative tools include Zoom Framing Assist (helping keep a distant subject in frame at extreme zoom), Story Highlights, and Creative Shot modes.

Build quality centers on a compact, lightweight body measuring approximately 110 x 64 x 36mm and weighing about 270g, connecting via USB 2.0 Hi-Speed and HDMI output, and storing images on SDXC memory cards.
