The Canon Speedlite 270EX II is an ultra-compact, lightweight on-camera flash unit designed for Canon EOS DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, and PowerShot models. Delivering portable illumination with a guide number of 89 feet (27 m) at ISO 100 (in the extended 50mm telephoto position) and 72 feet (22 m) at the 28mm wide position, this speedlite provides significantly more power and range than built-in pop-up flashes while fitting easily into a pocket or small bag.

The flash head features a 4-step vertical bounce range tilting up to 90 degrees for soft, indirect lighting that eliminates harsh shadows. For off-camera creative setups, the 270EX II incorporates optical wireless slave TTL capability (fixed to Group A across all channels), allowing it to be triggered remotely by a master flash, Speedlite Transmitter, or integrated camera Commander. A built-in remote release button enables wireless camera shutter triggering from up to 16.4 feet away (with a 2-second delay) on compatible Canon DSLRs. Operating on just two standard AA batteries with recycle times from 0.1 to 3.9 seconds, the flash supports High-Speed Sync (HSS), 1st and 2nd curtain sync, AF-assist beam firing, and color temperature metadata transmission.
