Rent NowThe M42 Lens to Sony E-Mount Adapter allows photographers to mount vintage M42 screw-mount lenses onto compatible Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. Designed to expand lens compatibility, this adapter provides a convenient way to use classic manual focus lenses with modern digital camera bodies, making it an excellent accessory for photographers interested in vintage optics and creative photography.
The adapter features an M42 threaded lens mount on one side and a Sony E-mount connection on the other, allowing compatible lenses to be securely attached to the camera. This configuration enables photographers to explore a wide selection of vintage M42 lenses, including prime, telephoto, and specialty lenses originally designed for older film SLR camera systems.
Designed for manual operation, this type of adapter typically does not provide electronic communication between the lens and camera. Autofocus, electronic aperture control, and electronic lens information transfer are generally unavailable. Photographers must adjust focus and aperture manually using the controls on the attached lens, depending on the lens’s design.
The adapter is compatible with Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, including select Sony Alpha APS-C and full-frame models. Its mechanical mounting design allows photographers to use compatible vintage lenses without permanently modifying the lens or camera body.
When used with a compatible M42 lens, the adapter is designed to maintain the appropriate flange distance for normal focusing operation, including infinity focus where supported by the lens and adapter combination. This allows photographers to take advantage of the original optical characteristics of vintage lenses while benefiting from modern digital camera features such as focus magnification and focus peaking.
Compact and straightforward in design, the M42 to Sony E-Mount Adapter provides a practical solution for photographers looking to expand their lens options. It is particularly useful for experimenting with vintage lens rendering, manual focus techniques, and traditional photographic equipment.
Combining simple mechanical construction with broad compatibility across M42 lenses and Sony E-mount camera bodies, this adapter offers an accessible way to incorporate classic optics into a modern mirrorless photography system.
