The Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED is a compact telephoto zoom for Nikon’s DX-format (APS-C) DSLRs. It came out in 2005 as the natural partner to the 18-55mm kit lens. On DX it covers an 82.5-300mm equivalent range, which gives you real reach for youth sports, wildlife, and candid portraits while staying small and light enough to toss in any bag. Two ED glass elements keep chromatic aberration down, Nikon’s Super Integrated Coating cuts flare and ghosting, and a 9-blade rounded diaphragm gives smoother background blur than you’d expect at this price. The AF-S Silent Wave Motor autofocuses on every Nikon DX body, including models without a built-in focus motor. The front element doesn’t rotate, so polarizers and graduated filters are easy to use. This is the original non-VR version, so it has no stabilization. Use faster shutter speeds at the long end or put it on a tripod for the sharpest results. It also adapts to Nikon Z mirrorless cameras with full autofocus through the FTZ adapter.
