The Nikon D780 is a full-frame DSLR that bridges traditional optical viewfinder shooting with advanced mirrorless-derived technology, making it a versatile choice for photographers who want the best of both worlds. Built around a 24.5MP BSI-CMOS sensor borrowed from the Z6 lineage, it delivers excellent dynamic range and low-light performance across a native ISO range of 100–51200, expandable to 204800. Autofocus through the optical viewfinder relies on Nikon’s proven 51-point Multi-CAM 3500FX II phase-detect system, while Live View switches to a hybrid on-sensor phase/contrast-detect AF system with 273 focus points — the same system found in the Z6. Continuous shooting reaches 7 fps through the viewfinder and 12 fps in silent Live View mode. Dual SD card slots support UHS-II, and the body offers full weather sealing with magnesium alloy construction. Video capabilities include 4K UHD recording from full-width sensor readout as well as 1080p up to 120 fps for slow-motion work, with N-Log and 10-bit HDMI output available for greater post-production flexibility. The D780 accepts the full range of Nikon F-mount lenses and is compatible with the vast majority of Nikkor glass accumulated over decades.
