Nikon FM 35mm Film SLR Camera
The Nikon FM is a legendary mid-range 35mm SLR that earned a reputation for exceptional durability and “workhorse” reliability upon its release in the late 1970s. As the successor to the Nikkormat FT3, the FM was engineered for serious enthusiasts who value a fully mechanical experience. Because the shutter is entirely manual, the camera remains fully operational at all speeds even without batteries, making it a favorite for students and purists alike.
Mechanical Excellence & Versatility
100% Mechanical Shutter: The focal plane shutter offers speeds from 1 to 1/1000 second plus Bulb. Since it is mechanical, batteries are only required to power the internal light meter.
Superior Lens Compatibility: Featuring a stainless steel Nikon F-mount, the FM is uniquely versatile. Its “aperture follow tab” can be flipped away, allowing it to safely mount almost every Nikon lens ever made, including Non-AI, AI, and AIS glass.
Intuitive Metering: The camera uses a classic 60/40 center-weighted metering system with easy-to-read LED indicators (+ / o / -) inside the viewfinder, ensuring accurate exposures even in low light.
Manual Control: Dedicated tactile wheels and levers provide total control over your shooting. The body also features a multi-exposure lever for creative layering and a depth-of-field preview lever.
Rugged Build & Classic Features
Compact Metal Construction: Despite its professional-grade internals, the FM maintains a compact, ergonomic form factor that feels substantial in the hand.
Viewfinder & Focusing: The fixed pentaprism provides 93% coverage. The standard screen includes three focusing aids: a central split-image rangefinder, a microprism grid, and a fine matte field.
Expandable System: While fully manual by nature, the FM supports Nikon MD-11 and MD-12 motor drives for automated film advance and is compatible with a wide range of Nikon Speedlights via its hot shoe.
Condition Note: “Well Used”
Functional Status: This camera has been thoroughly tested. The light meter is fully functional, and all shutter speeds are accurate.
Physical Condition: The body shows signs of heavy use, including a dent on the side. This is cosmetic and does not affect the camera’s mechanical functionality or film travel. There is also a number engraved on the bottom plate from a previous owner.
Maintenance Note: The light seals are worn and should be replaced to ensure light-tight operation before hitting the field.
Power: The meter requires two 1.5V LR44 or SR44 batteries (not included).
