Positioned as OM SYSTEM’s flagship for travel, wildlife, and outdoor shooting, the OM-1 is a rugged Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera designed to balance speed, portability, and advanced computational imaging. It combines a high-performance stacked sensor system with fast autofocus, strong video capabilities, and a highly durable, weather-sealed body built for demanding environments.
At its core is a newly developed 20.4MP stacked BSI Live MOS sensor paired with the TruePic X processor. This combination improves readout speed, noise performance, and dynamic range compared to previous generations, delivering cleaner high-ISO images and faster overall responsiveness. The processor also enables rapid shooting performance, with continuous bursts up to 10 fps using the mechanical shutter and up to 20 fps with the electronic shutter, both with full AF/AE tracking. High-speed blackout-free modes push performance even further, reaching up to 120 fps depending on AF settings.
A standout feature is the Cross Quad Pixel AF system, which uses all 1,053 on-sensor phase-detection points across the frame for fast, accurate focusing. AI-based subject recognition enhances tracking for people, animals, vehicles, and more, improving both speed and reliability in complex scenes.
The OM-1 also features 5-axis in-body image stabilization with up to 8 stops of compensation, supporting handheld shooting in low light and at longer focal lengths. This system enables several computational photography tools, including High Res Shot (up to 80MP tripod / 50MP handheld), Live ND simulation (up to ND64), Live Composite for long exposures, and Focus Stacking for extended depth of field.
Video performance includes DCI and UHD 4K recording up to 60p with 10-bit 4:2:0 internal capture, along with high-speed Full HD up to 240 fps for slow motion. Log and HLG profiles are included for advanced color grading and HDR workflows, with external raw video output available via micro-HDMI.
The camera’s body design emphasizes durability and usability in harsh conditions. It features an IP53-rated weather-sealed magnesium alloy body, freezeproof operation down to 14°F, and a shutter rated for 400,000 actuations. The electronic viewfinder offers a 5.76M-dot OLED display with high magnification and smooth 120 fps refresh, while the fully articulating touchscreen LCD supports flexible shooting angles.
Power is supplied by the BLX-1 battery, rated for approximately 520 shots per charge, with USB-C charging and power delivery support. Dual UHS-II SD card slots provide flexible storage options and backup workflows, and built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enable wireless transfer and remote control via OM SYSTEM’s mobile app.
Cosmetically, the camera shows edge wear on the body along with scratches on the rear LCD screen, consistent with regular field use.
