The Polaroid 210 Automatic Land Camera is a folding pack-film camera from Polaroid’s 200-series lineup, produced between 1967 and 1969. It was the lower-end model of the 200 line and notably the first color-capable Polaroid to sell for under $50, contributing to its popularity as an accessible entry point into instant photography, with roughly 1.5 million units produced.
Optically, the camera uses a 114mm f/8.8, 2-element plastic lens, paired with a plastic body and plastic shutter/lens housing. The automatic electronic shutter ranges from 1/1200 second to 10 seconds, with an automatic aperture range of f/8.8 to f/42, giving the camera a broad exposure range for varied lighting conditions. An exposure compensation dial offers a lighten/darken adjustment range of -1 to +2 stops, allowing photographers some manual influence over the camera’s automatic metering.
The camera features a parallax-corrected viewfinder with a built-in distance estimator in the eyepiece, helping photographers judge focusing distance since the camera relies on a folding bellows design and separate viewfinder focusing rather than a coupled rangefinder. Film speed settings are provided for 75 ASA (for Type 108 color film) and 3000 ASA (for Type 107 black-and-white film), and the camera accepts Polaroid’s discontinued 100-series peel-apart pack film, with compatible modern options including Fujifilm’s FP-100C, FP-100B, and FP-3000B instant films (also since discontinued, though period-appropriate for the camera’s original design).
Handling includes the classic folding clamshell design typical of Polaroid’s Automatic series, collapsing into a compact form for storage and opening via a front clamshell cover for use. The camera has no tripod socket. Power for the electronic shutter and metering system originally came from a 3V battery, though many surviving units have been converted to accept more readily available AA or AAA batteries.
