The optical layout features six “F” Low Dispersion (FLD) elements, two Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements, and five thin aspherical elements to suppress chromatic aberrations, color fringing, sagittal coma flare, and distortion. Super Multi-Layer and Nano Porous Coatings minimize flare and ghosting, while suppressed focus breathing ensures smooth, natural-looking focus pulls for video production. Driven by a High-response Linear Actuator (HLA) motor, the autofocus system operates more than three times faster than the previous model. Housed in a weather-sealed chassis with metal zoom extensions, the lens offers a tactile physical aperture ring (with click and lock toggles), two customizable AF-L buttons, a zoom lock switch, and an impressive 6.7-inch minimum focusing distance with a 1:2.7 maximum magnification.
