The Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM is a portrait-oriented prime lens built for Sony’s full-frame E-mount system, combining a fast maximum aperture with optical construction designed to deliver sharp detail and smooth background rendering. The lens features an 11-element, 8-group design that includes one extra-low dispersion element and one XA (extreme aspherical) element, the latter ground to a surface precision of 0.01 microns to minimize aberrations and contribute to the quality of out-of-focus rendering. An 11-blade circular aperture diaphragm supports the smooth bokeh characteristic associated with this focal length. Autofocus is handled by a dual linear motor system providing fast, quiet, and precise focusing performance suitable for both stills and video work. The lens includes a focus hold button and an AF/MF switch on the barrel, along with a de-click aperture ring that can be toggled for smooth aperture pulls during video capture. Built to G Master standards, the optic is compatible with Sony’s full-frame and APS-C E-mount bodies and supports the use of 82mm front filters.
