Tamron 28-200mm f/3.8-5.6 Aspherical (Model 71D) Lens (Minolta/Sony A-Mount)
Vintage All-in-One Autofocus Zoom SOLD AS-IS / REPAIR
The Tamron 28-200mm f/3.8-5.6 Aspherical (Model 71D) is a classic, highly versatile “vacation lens” designed for Minolta Alpha and Sony A-mount film and digital SLR cameras. Spanning from a wide-angle 28mm to a powerful 200mm telephoto reach, this comprehensive all-in-one zoom revolutionized consumer photography by replacing an entire bag of lenses with a single, compact footprint. Utilizing specialized aspherical elements to control distortion across its massive 7x zoom range, it remains a popular legacy choice for film shooters using Maxxum bodies and digital creators adapting to modern mirrorless systems. Please note: This lens is being sold strictly AS-IS due to internal fungus and missing caps.
Key Features & Engineering
Massive 7x All-In-One Zoom Range: Seamlessly transitions from 28mm wide-angle for sweeping landscapes and interiors to 200mm telephoto for pulling in distant sports, wildlife, and compressed portraits.
Aspherical Optical Architecture: Incorporates advanced aspherical glass elements into its internal design to significantly reduce spherical aberrations, geometric distortion, and edge softness throughout the vast focal range.
Minolta/Sony A-Mount Autofocus: Natively pairs with Minolta Alpha/Maxxum AF film cameras and Sony A-mount DSLRs. The camera’s internal body motor drives the mechanical screw autofocus system on the lens for responsive tracking.
Compact Travel Footprint: Features a remarkably lightweight and low-profile design relative to its extensive focal range, making it a highly practical option for day-long hiking, travel, and casual field deployment. Features a 72mm front filter thread.
Item Condition & AS-IS Notes
Optical Condition (Rear Element Fungus): SOLD AS-IS. Visual inspection reveals fungus blooming around the edges inside the rear glass element.
Performance Impact: Because this fungal growth is localized around the perimeter of the rear element, it may cause slight softening, decreased contrast, or corner blooming, particularly when shooting at wider apertures or directly into bright light. The lens is an excellent candidate for a teardown cleaning project, a budget experimental lens, or a parts donor.
Mechanical & Autofocus Status: The physical zoom barrel extends properly, and the manual focus ring cycles smoothly. The physical mechanical linkage points and screw-drive autofocus interface are fully intact.
Included Accessories: This unit is being sold bare. It does NOT include a front lens cap, a rear lens cap, or a lens hood.
