Rent NowThe Insta360 X4 360° 8K Camera is Insta360’s first 360-degree action camera capable of 8K video resolution, built for content creators and videographers who want cinematic, fully immersive footage along with the flexibility to reframe shots into traditional flat video after capture. Its rugged, waterproof design makes it well suited to action sports, travel, and adventure content creation.
At the core of the X4 is a 1/2-inch dual-lens sensor system paired with an f/1.9 aperture, delivering an effective 35mm-equivalent focal length of 6.7mm per lens. The camera captures 8K 360° video at 30/25/24fps using efficient H.265 compression, a 78% increase in pixel count over 5.7K that makes reframed footage hold its own against video shot on a standard camera. It also supports 5.7K+ at up to 30fps, 5.7K at up to 60fps, and 4K at up to 100fps for super slow-motion capture, with a maximum video bitrate of 200Mbps. Photo capture reaches 72MP (11904×5952) in 360° mode, or 18MP (5888×2944), saved in INSP or DNG RAW formats.
Insta360’s FlowState Stabilization and 360° Horizon Lock work together to deliver smooth, consistently level footage even during intense action, while the Invisible Selfie Stick effect removes the mounting pole from finished 360 footage for seamless third-person perspectives. A 4K60 single-lens mode effectively turns the X4 into two cameras in one, letting users shoot traditional flat video without needing the full 360 capture. Additional creative modes include 5.7K120 Bullet Time for slow-motion “Matrix-style” shots, 11K 360° Time-Lapse, 8K TimeShift hyperlapse, Active HDR, Starlapse, and Burst photo capture, along with AI-powered gesture control and Quick Edit for fast, phone-based reframing.
Handling centers on a 2.5-inch touchscreen display and removable, upgraded lens guards to protect the dual fisheye lenses from scratches. Audio capture uses 4 built-in microphones with Auto Wind Reduction, Active Wind Reduction, Stereo, and Direction Focus modes, recorded at 48kHz/16-bit AAC. The camera is natively waterproof to 10m (33 ft.) without additional housing, and connectivity includes 2.4GHz/5GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE 5.2, and USB Type-C (USB 3.0) for fast file transfer, along with compatibility with the Insta360 mobile app and desktop Insta360 Studio software for editing.
Build quality centers on a compact, rugged body measuring 46 x 123.6 x 37.6mm and weighing approximately 203g, rated to operate in temperatures from -4°F to 104°F (-20°C to 40°C). Power comes from a removable 2290mAh battery, rated for up to 135 minutes of continuous recording at 5.7K30fps (approximately 67% longer than its predecessor) or approximately 75 minutes at 8K30fps, with fast charging to 80% in 38 minutes. Recording media uses microSD cards (UHS-I V30 speed class, exFAT format, up to 1TB recommended).
