The unit supports flash sync speeds up to 1/8000 second via High-Speed Sync, auto-syncing the flash system with the camera’s shutter speed setting for wide-aperture shooting in bright conditions, alongside HyperSync compatibility for full-power flash at fast shutter speeds with compatible flash systems.
Built on PocketWizard’s ControlTL firmware platform, the FlexTT5 taps into the camera’s digital communications to enable remote i-TTL for Nikon’s CLS/i-TTL system as well as manual power control, with the firmware itself configurable and upgradeable via a mini-USB port and the included PocketWizard Utility software for continuous improvement and compatibility updates. Each unit can be programmed across up to 20 ControlTL channels for TTL photography or 32 standard channels for manual flash photography, with a three-zone selector switch integrating with Nikon’s native zone and ratio system, and a Learn Mode that automatically detects the channel used by other nearby PocketWizard units.
Handling includes two 3.5mm plug-in ports (Camera/P1 and Flash/P2) for connecting to remote cameras or non-TTL flash units, supporting remote camera triggering via a camera-specific motor cord and an Auto Relay Mode that can trigger a remote camera in sync with a remote flash. The unit retains a hot shoe on top so a flash can still be mounted directly to the transceiver itself, and it lies flat with a flip-up antenna for added range when needed.
