The FUJIFILM XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS Lens was the first telephoto zoom lens introduced in Fujifilm’s X-series lineup, designed for APS-C-format X-mount mirrorless cameras and offering an 84-305mm full-frame-equivalent focal range. It’s well suited to sports, event photography, portraiture, wildlife, and general telephoto work, giving photographers portrait-length through super-telephoto reach in a single lens.
Optically, the lens is built from 14 elements in 10 groups, including two extra-low dispersion (ED) elements (one Super ED element) and one aspherical element, working together to greatly reduce color fringing, chromatic aberration, and distortion for high clarity and color fidelity throughout the zoom range. Fujifilm’s Super EBC coating helps suppress flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy in bright and backlit conditions, and a rounded 7-blade diaphragm contributes to pleasing background rendering.
Autofocus is handled by two linear motors, delivering quick (as fast as 0.28 seconds), quiet, and smooth autofocus performance, particularly beneficial for fast-moving subjects and for maintaining stability at long focal lengths or during video recording. Built-in Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) is rated for up to 4.5 stops of shake correction, helping photographers achieve sharp handheld results in low light or at the lens’s longest focal lengths, with a dedicated OIS on/off switch on the barrel. A traditional aperture ring allows exposure adjustments directly on the lens in 1/3-stop increments, consistent with Fujifilm’s manual-control-oriented design philosophy, though the ring is electronically rather than mechanically coupled.
The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 3.6 ft. (1.1m) at all focal lengths, yielding a maximum magnification of 0.18x (1:5.55), allowing for telephoto close-ups though it is not a dedicated macro lens. Build quality includes a metal mount, metal focus and aperture rings, and a high-grade plastic barrel, with a non-rotating 62mm filter thread. The lens uses an internal focusing (IF) design and extends physically as it’s zoomed toward 200mm. It measures approximately 2.95 x 4.65 in. (75 x 118mm) and weighs approximately 20.46 oz. (580g).
As an APS-C-specific lens, the XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS is designed exclusively for Fujifilm’s X-mount mirrorless system and is not compatible with teleconverters.
