The Tokina 11-18mm f/2.8 ATX-M Lens (Sony E, Black) is a versatile ultra-wide-angle zoom lens engineered for APS-C-format Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, delivering a 16.5-27mm full-frame-equivalent focal range well suited to landscapes, cityscapes, group photos, environmental portraits, architecture, astrophotography, automobile photography, street photography, documentary video, and vlogging. It’s designed for active hybrid users who shoot both stills and video.

Optically, the lens is built from 13 elements in 11 groups, including two aspherical elements and two SD (Super-low Dispersion) glass elements, suppressing chromatic aberrations and providing rich color reproduction, low distortion, and minimal light fall-off. The constant f/2.8 maximum aperture is well suited to selective focus techniques and challenging lighting conditions, offering strong depth-of-field control for subject-background isolation, and a rounded 9-blade diaphragm contributes to pleasing bokeh.

Autofocus is handled by a silent STM (stepping) motor coupled with a lens position sensor for fast, precise autofocus performance in both stills and video modes, with an internal-focusing design that keeps the lens’s overall length constant while focusing. The lens also supports Sony’s in-camera 5-axis image stabilization on compatible bodies. Minimum focusing distance varies across the zoom range, reaching as close as 7.5 in. (19cm) at 11mm (1:9.2 magnification) and 11.8 in. (30cm) at 18mm (1:12.4 magnification).

Build quality centers on a compact, lightweight design, measuring approximately 74.4mm in diameter by 74.1-82.7mm in length and weighing just 11.8 oz. (335g), roughly 40% lighter than Tokina’s earlier 11-16mm f/2.8 DSLR lens. The lens accepts a 67mm filter thread via a separate, bayonet-fit lens hood (rather than an integral hood), and its electronic mount interface transfers full EXIF data to the camera body. The lens does not include optical image stabilization of its own.

As an APS-C-specific lens, the Tokina 11-18mm f/2.8 ATX-M is designed exclusively for Sony’s APS-C E-mount mirrorless cameras and does not cover a full-frame image circle.
