The Canon EOS 750 35mm Film Camera Body is an autofocus 35mm SLR introduced by Canon in 1988, notable as the first Canon SLR to feature a built-in flash. It’s a simplified EOS model, primarily designed around programmed autoexposure for beginners who want point-and-shoot simplicity with the benefit of Canon’s EF lens system.
The camera uses Canon’s EF lens mount, relying entirely on electronic contacts for communication between the body and lens, eliminating mechanical linkages for quick, reliable autofocus and exposure control. Exposure is handled through a composite SPC sensor for TTL full-aperture metering, using a 6-zone evaluative pattern along with Intelligent Program AE and a special depth-of-field AE mode: by half-pressing the shutter release on two different points in the scene, the camera selects an aperture small enough to keep both in focus. Metering range covers EV 0-20 with a 50mm f/1.4 lens at ISO 100 (EV 3-20 in high temperature and humidity conditions).
The electronically controlled, vertical-travel focal-plane shutter offers speeds from 2 seconds to 1/2000 second plus Bulb mode, and the camera includes a single autofocus sensor along with camera-shake warning in non-flash shooting modes. Film speed is read automatically via DX coding across an ISO range of 25-3200, with no manual override available. The built-in flash offers a range of approximately 12m at ISO 100, with recommended compatible external flash units including the 160E, 420EZ, and 300EZ.
Handling includes a built-in motor for automatic film advance (pre-wind) and rewind, with continuous shooting reaching approximately 1.2fps, along with a self-timer and an LED metering display. A tripod thread is built into the body. Build quality uses a lightweight plastic-and-metal construction, measuring approximately 149 x 102 x 71mm and weighing approximately 620g, powered by a single 2CR5 lithium battery. A QD (Quartz Date) version was also offered, adding a quartz digital calendar and clock capable of imprinting dates onto film through 2019.
