This system analyzes the shooting environment and subject distance, then automatically adjusts the flash head’s tilt and rotation to produce soft, evenly diffused light without requiring manual positioning. It can operate in full-auto mode, where the flash handles both angle and rotation entirely, or semi-auto mode, where you set the bounce angle and the flash automatically adjusts rotation as you change camera orientation.
Beyond its automated bounce functionality, the 470EX-AI offers solid core flash performance with E-TTL/E-TTL II support, a guide number of 154 ft at ISO 100 (105mm), and a zoom head covering 24105mm. A built-in pull-out wide panel extends coverage down to 14mm for broader scenes. The flash head provides flexible movement with up to 120° of tilt and 180° of rotation in either direction, allowing full bounce control when needed.
Additional features include ±3 EV flash exposure compensation in 1/3 or 1/2 stop increments, an optical slave mode for off-camera triggering, and an AF assist beam for improved focusing in low light.
