The FUJIFILM GF 63mm f/2.8 R WR is a standard prime for the GFX medium format system, providing a field of view equivalent to a 50mm lens in 35mm terms. Its natural perspective, compact size, and weather-resistant build make it a versatile everyday lens for GFX shooters, well suited to portraits, street and documentary work, landscapes, and still life.
The optical design consists of 10 elements in 8 groups, including one extra-low dispersion (ED) element to help control chromatic aberration. The lens is designed to resolve the fine detail that GFX sensors are capable of capturing, delivering sharp, high-contrast images with the smooth tonal gradation that medium format is known for.
The f/2.8 maximum aperture, combined with the large GFX sensor, allows for noticeably shallow depth of field and a gentle falloff from in-focus to out-of-focus areas. A nine-blade rounded diaphragm helps render backgrounds and highlights smoothly. At the other end of the range, the aperture stops down to f/32 for situations that call for extended depth of field.
The lens focuses as close as 50 cm (19.7 in), with a maximum magnification of 0.17x, giving enough flexibility for tighter compositions, detail shots, and product work without switching lenses.
Handling is straightforward and tactile. A dedicated aperture ring with A (auto) and C (command) positions gives photographers the choice between direct physical control and adjusting aperture from the camera’s command dial. The lens is relatively compact and lightweight for a medium format optic, weighing approximately 405 g (14.3 oz) and measuring about 84 x 71 mm, which helps keep a GFX setup balanced and portable.
Weather-resistant construction seals the lens against dust and moisture, and it is designed to operate in temperatures as low as -10°C (14°F). Paired with a weather-resistant GFX body, it is ready for outdoor shooting in changing conditions. The lens accepts 62mm filters.
