The Sony DCR-SR42 Digital Handycam is a compact, tapeless hard drive-based digital camcorder engineered to offer convenient long-form recording without the need to carry MiniDV tapes or DVD discs. Built around an internal 30GB shock-protected hard disk drive, the DCR-SR42 stores up to 20 hours of standard-definition MPEG-2 video footage, allowing creators and family archivists to record extended vacations, events, and vintage Y2K-style home videos directly to solid storage. At the optical front, it features a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens offering an expansive 40x optical zoom ratio (expandable up to 2000x via digital zoom) with integrated multi-coating to suppress internal reflections and flare.
Imaging is driven by a 1/6-inch Advanced HAD (Hole Accumulation Diode) CCD sensor, designed to improve signal-to-noise performance and yield rich color rendition under daylight and indoor illumination. Handheld camera movement is mitigated by Sony’s Super SteadyShot picture stabilization system, smoothing handheld camera shake across extended focal lengths. For zero-light night recording, the camcorder incorporates Super NightShot Plus infrared technology, enabling monochrome recording in total darkness up to 20 feet away. User operation is managed via a 2.5-inch articulating SwivelScreen touch panel LCD with on-screen menu navigation. Supplied with a rechargeable battery pack (AC wall charger and docking cradle omitted), this unit is completely untested and offered strictly as-is for collectors, parts retrieval, or restoration.

(Handycam Station docking cradle, AC power adapter/battery charger, A/V cables, USB cables, remote control, and user manual are omitted and not included).
Operational & Testing Status: UNTESTED / STRICTLY AS-IS FOR PARTS OR REPAIR. Due to the absence of the proprietary Sony AC power adapter/charging cradle, this camcorder has not been powered on, charged, or functionally tested. The operational integrity of the internal 30GB hard drive, CCD sensor, internal zoom mechanism, LCD touchscreen backlighting, audio circuitry, and battery hold capacity cannot be guaranteed and remain unverified. Sold strictly as-is for vintage parts, display, prop use, or technician repair.
Exterior & Chassis Status: GOOD COSMETIC CONDITION. The silver-finished composite outer shell, hand strap, lens surround, and LCD casing show standard cosmetic signs of previous handling and storage, including light surface scuffs, shallow finish rubbing along edge contours, and minor handling marks. All engraved model badging, Sony lettering, and Carl Zeiss branding remain fully intact and legible.
Lens & Display Status: UNTESTED / VISUALLY INTACT. The Carl Zeiss front glass element is visually clean and free of visible deep gouges, impacts, or element separation. The built-in mechanical lens barrier opens and closes manually without binding. The 2.5-inch SwivelScreen LCD panel shows minor cosmetic surface marks; the swivel hinge rotates smoothly through its standard horizontal and tilt range. Touchscreen responsiveness and screen illumination remain untested.
Ports & Terminals: INTACT. The bottom Handycam Station multi-connector dock port, side DC-in jack, and A/V out terminals are physically intact, straight, and free of corrosion or bent pins. The battery locking latch engages firmly.
