Insta360 X5 360° 8K Camera

The Insta360 X5 360° 8K Camera is Insta360’s flagship 360-degree action camera, built around dual large sensors and user-replaceable lenses to deliver pro-level results in nearly any shooting environment, from the street and trail to underwater. It’s well suited to content creators and videographers who want immersive 360° footage alongside traditional single-lens action camera capability.

At the core of the X5 are dual 1/1.28-inch CMOS sensors, an industry-first triple AI chip, and a PureVideo low-light mode that applies AI-powered noise reduction to preserve color and clarity in dim or nighttime scenes. The camera captures native 8K/30fps 360° video (using supersampling from 11K for added pixel density and sharper reframed results), along with 5.7K+ at up to 30fps, 5.7K at up to 60fps, and 4K at up to 120fps for smooth slow motion. Still photo capture reaches 72MP (11904 x 5952) in 360° mode, or 18MP (5888 x 2944) in single-lens mode, saved in INSP or DNG RAW formats. The fixed lenses use an f/2 aperture with a 6mm 35mm-equivalent focal length and a 170-degree ultra-wide angle of view per lens.

Insta360’s FlowState Stabilization and 360° Horizon Lock work together to deliver smooth, consistently level footage even during fast action, flips, or rolls, while the Invisible Selfie Stick effect removes the mounting pole from finished 360 footage for seamless third-person perspectives. A single-lens mode lets the X5 shoot flat, traditional video and FreeFrame video without needing the full 360 capture, and the camera can simultaneously generate a ready-to-share flat video alongside its 360° footage. Additional creative modes include Active HDR, PureVideo, InstaFrame, Timelapse, TimeShift, Bullet Time, Loop Recording, Road Mode, and Me Mode.

Handling centers on a 2.5-inch Gorilla Glass touchscreen for framing, menu navigation, and footage preview, along with gesture control and Voice Control 2.0 for hands-free operation. Audio capture includes automatic wind noise reduction (two strengths), voice enhancement, stereo recording, and 360° audio capture. The camera’s new replaceable lens design lets users pop out damaged lenses and snap in fresh ones, reducing downtime and repair costs, with an optically ultra-hard film offering 100% better drop resistance than the previous X4 model.

Build quality centers on a compact, rugged body measuring approximately 4.9 x 1.8 x 1.5 in. and weighing approximately 7.05 oz., natively waterproof to 49 ft. (15m), a 50% improvement over the X4, extendable to 197 ft. (60m) with the separately available Invisible Dive Case. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi, USB, and full compatibility with the Insta360 mobile app (Android and iOS) and desktop Insta360 Studio software for editing, AI-assisted editing, and sharing. The camera uses microSD card storage (not included) and a removable 2400mAh battery, rated for up to 88 minutes of 8K recording or up to 185 minutes in Endurance Mode, with fast charging to 80% in approximately 20 minutes.
