The Polaroid Super Shooter Land Camera is a rigid, plastic-bodied instant pack-film camera produced in the United States between 1975 and 1977, originally retailing for around $20-25. It was designed as an accessible, budget-friendly entry point into Polaroid’s peel-apart instant photography system for casual home users.
The camera uses Polaroid’s 80-Series peel-apart pack film, such as the discontinued Polaroid 87, 88, and Viva films, or the more modern Type 100 pack film, including Fuji’s discontinued FP-100C. Focusing is achieved manually via a distance finder built into the lens, though this finder is not coupled to the viewfinder, requiring the photographer to estimate distance separately from composing the shot. The viewfinder automatically adjusts its framing according to the specific size of the film pack loaded into the camera.
Exposure is set based on film speed, supporting ISO 75 for color prints and ISO 3000 for black-and-white film, giving the camera flexibility across Polaroid’s various pack-film stocks of the era. A built-in flash accepts either standard or Hi-Power flashcubes, providing supplemental lighting for indoor and low-light shots. Unlike some later Polaroid pack-film cameras that use spreader bars to process the film, the Super Shooter uses development rollers to spread the reagent evenly across the print as it’s ejected.
The camera includes a cold clip accessory with instructions, useful for helping prints develop properly in colder outdoor conditions. Power for the shutter mechanism comes from two standard 1.5V AA batteries.
