Sony DCR-SR47 60GB Handycam Camcorder (Silver)

The Sony DCR-SR47 60GB Handycam Camcorder (Silver) is an entry-level hard-disk-drive camcorder designed for home users who want extended, hassle-free video recording without managing tapes or discs. It’s built for capturing vivid home videos of everyday moments like a child’s play or a day at the beach, combining Sony’s hybrid hard drive and Memory Stick recording system in a straightforward, easy-to-use body.

At the core of the DCR-SR47 is a 1/8″ Advanced HAD CCD image sensor with 680,000 gross pixels, paired with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens offering 60x optical zoom (focal length 1.8-108mm, f/1.8-6.0), extendable to 2000x with Digital Zoom Interpolation for notably clearer results with less distortion than older digital zoom methods. SteadyShot picture stabilization uses motion sensors to reduce unwanted picture shake, and a power zoom lever allows for either a slow, gentle zoom or a faster zoom depending on how far it’s pressed.

The camcorder records video in MPEG-2 (Standard Definition) format with Dolby Digital 2-channel stereo audio, storing footage on its built-in 60GB non-removable hard disk drive, capable of holding up to approximately 45 hours of video in LP mode or about 15 hours in HQ mode, with “HDD Smart Protection” helping prevent data loss if the camcorder is accidentally dropped. An optional Memory Stick PRO Duo card can also be used for additional storage or easy file transfer. Still images are captured at a maximum resolution of 640 x 480 (VGA).

Handling centers on a 2.7-inch wide touch-panel LCD display (123K pixels), which rotates up to 270 degrees for flexible viewing angles. Connectivity includes USB 2.0 High Speed for computer transfer, with support for Sony’s PMB (Picture Motion Browser) software for organizing footage and one-touch uploading to social media sites, along with One Touch Disc Burn and direct connection to a compatible DVD burner. The camcorder measures approximately 60 x 68 x 112mm and weighs about 300g (without tape, battery, etc.), and is powered by a rechargeable NP-FH30 battery pack.
