Optically, the teleconverter is built from 8 elements in 5 groups, including an aspherical lens element that helps preserve consistently high image quality once attached. As with any 2x teleconverter, light loss is approximately 2 stops, with the camera’s displayed aperture automatically adjusting to reflect the combined lens-and-converter aperture. The dedicated design maintains full communication between the lens and camera body, preserving auto-exposure metering, autofocus performance, and Optical SteadyShot (OSS) image stabilization.
Build quality includes a dust- and moisture-resistant construction, precision-engineered to match the ruggedness of Sony’s professional G Master lenses for reliable use in demanding outdoor conditions. The teleconverter is compatible only with a specific range of Sony telephoto lenses, including the FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS (original and Mark II versions), FE 70-200mm f/4 Macro G OSS II, FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS, FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS, FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS, and FE 600mm f/4 GM OSS; it is not compatible with the original FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS or any third-party lenses, so photographers should confirm compatibility with their specific lens before use.
