Panasonic HC-V785K Full HD Camcorder

The Panasonic HC-V785K Full HD Camcorder is a compact, feature-rich camcorder designed for home users and casual videographers who want bright, crisp Full HD video capture even in dim lighting, along with creative extras like slow motion and dual-camera recording. It’s built around a Leica Dicomar lens and a larger-than-typical sensor for a camcorder in its class.

At the core of the HC-V785K is a 1/2.3-inch Back-Illuminated MOS sensor (actual 12.76MP, 6.03MP effective), offering a 34% larger effective area and 34% larger pixels than a standard 1/5.8-inch sensor, reducing noise and improving image quality in low light. Panasonic’s Crystal Engine PRO+ image processor delivers vivid, accurate color for natural, lifelike footage, and the camcorder can capture 24MP still photos at up to 9 selectable resolutions.

The camcorder features a Leica Dicomar 20x optical zoom lens (four separate optical groups, f/1.8 maximum aperture) covering a 29.5-612mm equivalent focal range, extendable to 50x Intelligent Zoom, 60x digital zoom, or up to 1500x digital zoom, giving users considerable reach from wide-angle framing to distant telephoto subjects. HYBRID O.I.S. 5-axis image stabilization, along with an AUTO O.I.S. Lock function, helps suppress blurring from wide-angle through powerful zoom shots, while a Level Shot Function detects and corrects image tilt for steadier, more level footage. High-speed precision autofocus benefits from a 60fps sensor readout for quick, stable, and accurate focus tracking.

Video capability includes Full HD (1920 x 1080) recording with slow-motion capture at up to 240fps (using Intelligent Frame Creation interpolation for an equivalent slow-motion effect), along with HDR Movie mode, which combines two images shot at different exposure times to suppress blown highlights and blocked shadows for crisper, clearer video. A Wireless Twin Camera feature connects the camcorder to a smartphone via Wi-Fi, letting users simultaneously record a main Full HD image from the camcorder alongside a secondary picture-in-picture image from the phone’s camera, for footage from two angles at once. A built-in surround microphone includes zoom and wind-noise reduction, and a Night mode supports full-color shooting in low light.

Handling centers on a 3.0-inch articulating touchscreen LCD for framing, playback, and menu navigation, along with multi manual dial settings for direct control over exposure parameters. Connectivity includes 2.4GHz Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) and NFC, working with the Panasonic Image App for remote shooting, live view, and settings adjustment from a connected smartphone or tablet. The camcorder records to SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards via a single card slot, and includes a USB-A input, a Micro-USB (USB 2.0) output, and a 1/8″ (3.5mm) TRS stereo microphone input and headphone output.

Build quality centers on a compact body measuring approximately 5.5 x 2.9 x 2.6 in. (139.0 x 73.0 x 65.0mm) and weighing about 12.4 oz (351g) body only, powered by a rechargeable 3.6V, 1940mAh battery pack. The lens accepts 49mm filters.
