The GoPro HERO9 Black is a rugged, waterproof action camera built for adventure sports, travel, and everyday content creation, bringing “more of everything” over its predecessor, the HERO8 Black. It’s designed for photographers and videographers who want durable, grab-and-go performance in extreme conditions.

At the core of the HERO9 Black is a newly developed 23.6MP 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor paired with GoPro’s GP1 processor, delivering 5K video at 30fps (100Mbps bitrate via H.264/AVC or H.265/HEVC), along with 4K at up to 60fps, 2.7K at up to 120fps, and 1080p at up to 240fps for extreme 8x slow motion. Still photo capture reaches 20MP, with SuperPhoto and HDR processing automatically optimizing image settings, along with RAW file support and a native ISO range of 100-6400.

HyperSmooth 3.0 video stabilization adds in-camera horizon leveling for smooth, gimbal-free footage even during intense action, and TimeWarp 3.0 delivers improved real-time hyperlapse capture. The camera’s lens is detachable, with an optional Max Lens Mod accessory available separately to add Max HyperSmooth stabilization and an ultra-wide 155-degree Max SuperView field of view. Touch Zoom lets users digitally adjust field of view directly from the touchscreen.

Handling centers on a larger rear touchscreen (2.27 in.) along with a new front-facing live-view display for easier vlogging and self-framing, both inherited and expanded features for this generation. The camera is waterproof to 33 feet (10m) without any additional housing, and includes a built-in, flip-out 2-prong mount for quick attachment to standard GoPro mounting accessories. Power Tools features include HindSight (capturing up to 30 seconds of footage before the shutter is pressed), LiveBurst, Scheduled Capture, and Duration Capture, along with 14 voice control commands. The camera also supports 1080p live streaming and functions as a webcam when connected to a computer.

Build quality includes a rugged composite body, a single microSD/SDHC/SDXC card slot (up to 256GB), and a 1720mAh battery rated for approximately 30% longer life than the HERO8 Black. Connectivity is handled through a single USB-C port (USB 3.2 Gen 1), used for charging, data transfer, and connecting GoPro’s Media Mod, Light Mod, and Display Mod accessories.
