The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K (Canon EF) is a handheld digital film camera that packs Hollywood-caliber imaging features into a compact, pocketable body, built for filmmakers who need cinema-grade image quality without the size or cost of a full-scale production camera. It’s aimed at independent filmmakers, documentary shooters, and content creators who want feature-film-style color, dynamic range, and depth-of-field control from a single, portable system.

At the core of the camera is a 6144 x 3456 Super 35 sensor, larger than the 4/3 sensor used in Blackmagic’s 4K model, paired with an active Canon EF lens mount that supports iris, focus, and zoom control on compatible EF and EF-S lenses. The larger sensor and EF mount combination allows photographers to use larger photographic lenses to create cinematic images with shallower depth of field, enabling creative defocused backgrounds and pronounced bokeh, along with extra resolution that gives editors more room for reframing during post-production without sacrificing image quality.

The camera records internally in Blackmagic RAW, capturing wide dynamic range and deep, organic color with precise skin tones, along with support for multiple resolutions including 6144 x 3456 (6K) up to 50fps, 4096 x 2160 (4K DCI), and 1920 x 1080 (HD) at up to 120fps for slow motion. Sensor design reduces thermal noise for cleaner shadows and higher usable ISO, and the camera includes dedicated physical controls for iris, ISO, white balance, and shutter angle directly on the multifunction handgrip, keeping frequently adjusted settings within easy reach during handheld shooting.

Handling centers on a large 5-inch LCD screen for accurate focus confirmation at both 4K and 6K resolutions, along with a removable battery door, four shockproof microphones, and a built-in speaker for on-set audio monitoring. Recording media options include SD and CFast 2.0 cards, along with the ability to record directly to external USB-C disks for extended, high-bitrate capture. Build quality uses a lightweight carbon fiber polycarbonate composite construction, along with a heavy-duty lens mount designed to withstand the demands of location and handheld shooting.

The camera includes a full license of DaVinci Resolve Studio for editing, color correction, audio post-production, and visual effects work, giving filmmakers a complete production and post-production pipeline built around the footage captured on the camera.
