The Laowa 10mm f/2.8 Zero-D FF from Venus Optics is an ultra-wide-angle manual focus lens designed for full-frame Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras. Combining an expansive 130.4° angle of view with a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture, the lens is particularly well suited for landscapes, architecture, interiors, astrophotography, and other applications where an exceptionally wide perspective is desired.
Laowa’s Zero-D optical design is engineered to minimize the strong barrel distortion commonly associated with ultra-wide-angle lenses. This helps maintain straighter lines throughout the frame, making the lens especially useful for architectural and interior photography where accurate rendering of vertical and horizontal lines is important.
The optical construction incorporates two aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements to help control optical aberrations while maintaining sharpness and clarity. Despite its extremely wide field of view and full-frame coverage, the lens weighs less than one pound, making it a portable option for travel and location photography.
The manual focus design provides precise control over focus placement and allows focusing on subjects as close as approximately 4.7″. Its bright f/2.8 aperture also provides additional flexibility when working in lower-light environments.
This 14-blade version of the lens produces a softer and more subtle sunstar effect compared with the alternative five-blade version. A built-in 77mm filter thread also allows compatible circular filters to be mounted directly to the lens, a useful feature for landscape and architectural photographers working with an ultra-wide field of view.
